Look over VitraStone, which has all the benifits of CEMENT, but is made from CERAMIC-CEMENT. (Not PORTLAND CEMENT)
VitraStone is 70-85% recycled content, no off-gassing, pts towards LEED, low embodied energy, along with many other benifits to offer.
This is interesting. I hadn't heard of this before. I assume it has the hardwaring properties you would need. Does anyone know where this might be available in the UK?
Paperstone is sold at Environmental Building Supplies, recently renamed ecohaus. It is manufactured by a company called Kliptech. The recycled paper comes from a family run paper mill in Washtington State. We reccommend the services of a fabricator and installer to achieve professional looking results. FSC certified Paperstone countertops are currently available exclusively through Built-E, the parent company to ecohaus, and while they can ship anywhere in the world, the expense of shipping overseas might be prohibitively expensive. www.ecohaus.com
